Volunteering

Volunteering has always been a key part of the service provided by Glencraig. From the 1960’s to present, there have been between 20 & 40 international volunteers who come and stay for at least a year at Glencraig.

Volunteers and Students

  1. The involvement of local volunteers and students is welcomed at Glencraig, there are four main areas where the above can be involved:
Residential setting – supporting adults with a learning disability in a residential setting.
  2. School Placement – supporting children with a learning disability and complex needs in an educational setting.
  3. Training College – supporting adults with a learning disability and complex needs in day activities.
  4. Environmental and gardening projects

Short Term Coworker (International Volunteers)

International Volunteers are mainly involved in the residential setting at Glencraig but in some cases, it may be possible to organise activities in other areas. International Students are usually placed in areas relevant to their course of study if there is a place available.

There are three stages in our application process:

  • Stage 1 – The applicant will submit an online application form and if suitable will be invited to participate in a skype interview. After the interview, they will be informed if they have been selected for the project.
  • Stage 2 – If selected they will need to complete an Access NI application (the criminal record check for Northern Ireland) and provide specified documents to Glencraig.
  • Stage 3 – Only for International Volunteers/Students who require a UK visa. After they have received their Access NI clearance they will apply for a UK Charity Worker visa.

The above process can take 3 – 5 months to complete.
