Curative Education
Curative Education
The unique approach by Camphill towards children with special needs is known as Curative Education. This is a holistic approach, meeting the needs of children with learning disabilities through:
- Education
- Care
- Therapy
There are two essential elements to the delivery of the curriculum at Glencraig:
1. The Waldorf Curriculum is inspired by Rudolf Steiner and provides a curriculum which is based on Steiner's approach to child development and helps to meet the chronological needs of the child.
2. The Northern Ireland Curriculum programmes of study and attainment targets help the pupils to develop skills at their own level of ability.
Bothmer Gymnastics and the Waldorf Movement Curriculum In Curative Education
This method of education is relevant and can be applied in a practical way when teaching children with complex needs. It introduces a wide variety of experimental themes and topics.
The principles of levity, gravity and balance are fundamental to offering the children an opportunity to overcome something of their disabilities and experience their progress and potential which can be moving and touching to witness.
Much of the work of the games teacher is in the preparation and the appropriate reductions not to dilute, but to enhance, to be straight forward rather than complex. The children can then be individually active in developing their own harmony using simple games apparatus and the Bothmer Gymnastic exercises.
This can then lead on to sports and athletic activities which can give the children a possibility for integrating into groups and clubs and having fun.
